Gallo Center for the Arts presents Smokey Robinson. Smokey Robinson is second to only Berry Gordy in the founding of Motown Records, and also is the founder of the beloved R&B group, The Miracles. A prolific songwriter, he is credited with 4,000 songs and 37 Top 40 hits including “Tears of a Clown”, “Tracks of My Tears” and “Love Machine”. Smokey also served as vice president of Motown records, writing and producing hits for groups such as the Temptations (“My Girl”) and Mary Wells (“My Guy”). Bob Dylan has hailed him as “America’s greatest living poet.” In 2006 Robinson was selected to be a Kennedy Center Honoree for his contributions to the arts and American culture and received an honorary degree from Howard University. Writers and Directors Wanted – One Act Play Festival

In August 2012 Tracy Performing Arts Foundation will be presenting the 1st Annual One Act Play Festival in a variety of venues in the Tracy area. TPAF is now soliciting writers and directors to submit one act plays.

The goal is to highlight regional writers, directors and actors in a concentrated series of performances.

Submitted plays will be vetted by a jury of TPAF members for quality and appropriateness of material. Directors will rehearse their individual plays and prepare them for production by Monday August 6th 2012. Performance times will be assigned for the following weekend. All performances will be at La Bonne Vie Cellars on Saturday August 11th with awards being presented the following evening.

TPAF will offer assistance to directors with rehearsal space and access to TPAF’s costume and prop collection. TPAF will hold open auditions for actors interested in participating in the One Act Play Festival. Directors may fill out their casts at this open audition.

A Judging Panel will attend each play to choose , Best Play, Best Actor in a female role and Best Actor in a Male role. The participating general public will have an opportunity to cast a separate ballot for “Audience Choice” for each show they attend.

Come Celebrate Siva Polynesia’s Captivating Island Cultural dances from Hawaii the Ancient Hula,
Slap dance of Samoa, Maori warriors of Aotearoa-New Zealand, Graceful motion of Tonga,
and the Rhythmic Drums of Tahiti at Siva Dance Company’s 2nd Annual Ho’ike along with emcee Tennyson Lum and the Ka ehu Kai Hawaiian Band.

Our students and performers are from the Tracy/Mountain House community
and bay area, from all diverse backgrounds, starting at the young age of 3 yrs old and up –
All coming together for the love of Polynesian performing arts.
