ABOUT “TRACY, OUR TOWN U.S.A.”:
Tracy, Our Town U.S.A., written by City Councilmember Evelyn Tolbert
celebrates the heroes, heroines, icons and misfits that are part of Tracy’s
history.  Even with its “racy” past, the City of Tracy is a product of
immigrants from around the world. Very special women stepped up and did what
needed to be done to help make this city what it is today.

This year’s production of Tracy, Our town U.S.A.. is a musical celebration
of the lives of women like Mrs. Laura Mathews, Dorothy Zanussi, Bessie
Jones, Amelia “Hazel” Broedell, and Mamma Lee. Without the efforts and
contributions of these women, Tracy would not have its local newspaper,
hospital, industries, and government.

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT:
Council member Evelyn Tolbert was first elected to the Tracy, CA City
Council in November 1998 after having served on the Tracy Planning
Commission.  Tolbert represents the City of Tracy on the Deuel Prison
Citizen Advisory Committee, the San Joaquin County Library Task Force, and
the City-Chamber of Commerce Liaison Committee.

Tolbert founded the Tracy Performing Arts Foundation that produces the
musical she creates each year entitled “Tracy, Our Town, USA.” Evelyn writes
the storyline, the song lyrics and the music for the  musical, which is
produced each September  in honor of Founder’s Day, with all proceeds going
to support Tracy performing arts. Evelyn Tolbert, in conjunction with the
Tracy Performing Arts Foundation Board, created the “Star Quest” and the
Tracy Performing Arts Foundation Scholarship programs.

If you have ever performed in a choir you know the magic you feel when it all comes together as a group, come relive that magic again with our choir. If you have never been in a choir and just love to sing, come discover the magic for yourself, you won’t be disappointed!

Singers can be any age. If you are interested in singing in advanced choir, bring a song and be prepared to sing A Capella. The winter season begins rehearsals September 3rd at The Grand Theatre. The final performance of the winter session will be a show called “Sharing the Season” taking place at The Grand on December 5th.

Drama Camp finished up 2009 with an amazing performance of The Big Bad Musical along with Nursery Crimes last night at the Grand Theatre. What a fantastic show, everyone was so great, what an impressive pool of talent we have here in Tracy. Kelly Baker auditioned for her first play two years ago with low expectations.

She came away with a starring role and new sense of self-worth.

“Theater transformed me,” said the 18-year-old aspiring actor-director-playwright-theater company-owner. “Stepping onto that stage was like home to me.”

Since her first theater role as Willy Loman’s enabling wife, Linda, in “Death of a Salesman,” Baker has worked in various productions as a director, producer, costume designer and, this summer, a teacher at a children’s drama camp.

The Tracy Performing Arts Foundation is pleased to present a musical scholarship program, called Encore! This scholarship program will give musicians an opportunity to participate in a process where their ability, accomplishment level, and potential are reviewed and judged by professional musicians. One participant will receive a full scholarship to La Honda Music Camp! Juried auditions are open to all Tracy area instrumentalists who are age 19 and under. Don’t miss it! Deadline for applications and permission forms is due April 17.

The Tracy Community Choir is pleased to announce the creation of the new ‘Youth Advanced Ensemble’. This will be a very exclusive group – only 12 people with exceptional musical abilities will be chosen.  Participation in the regular youth choir is not required but HIGHLY encouraged.

• Be prepared to sing a song of your choice (no pop music please)
• Other musicianship exercises can be expected

Auditions will be Saturday, Feburary 28th from 10:00-12:00, Grand Theatre Studio I. (first come first serve) Ages 12 – 18

Rehearsals will start March 18th from 5:30 – 7:00 PM and go every Wednesday until May 6th (location will be announced).  We will perform at the concert and other venues to be announced.  Tuition will be a flat $60.
